Remington Electric Chain saw RM1415A

Chainsaws can be pretty hungry beasts- and that is a truth. Aside from eating up most of your energy just by holding it, chainsaws consume quantities and quantities of fossil fuel just to keep itself going on and on throughout its operation cycle.

Not only does the fossil fuel consumption of regular chainsaws hurt the pocket- it also hurts the environment in which we move about and interact with. Chainsaws emit carbon monoxide, largely thanks to the fact that they indeed burn up fossil fuels and spew out the waste materials to the outside world. To remedy this, Remington offers its latest product- the Remington Electric Chain saw RM1415A. The new chainsaw promises to be effective in doing its job, as well as to be efficient in handling energy resources for a greener earth. So is this little chap worth your buck? Read on to find out.

Key Features

* No gas to worry with; great for smaller jobs around the house
* 14-inch Low kickback bar and chain
* Push button oiler
* External adjustment screw for chain tensioning
* Environmentally friendly

Straight out of the box, the Remington Chainsaw looks and actually feels light, with the machine clocking in at 7 lbs. it should be noted that such weight is below the industry average for chainsaws and related equipment. That alone can guarantee you that this product is as light as it says so in the ads.

The chainsaw is designed to provide users with high performance levels to match its weight, as well as a rugged construction to assist users in handling and storing the device. Moreover, user-friendly controls and parts exist in this lightweight contender, giving most users the convenience and ease they usually look for when buying units of equipment.

Did we mention that the chainsaw is electrically powered? (If not, then we’re telling you now) The Homelite chainsaw functions well and feeds well on electrical energy to power itself up. Not only does this feature help save and conserve Mother Nature, it also saves you the hassle from frequent trips to gas stations to load up on fuel for your chainsaw. The chainsaw comes in shipped with an AC electric cord long enough for you to reach out to those far-away electric sockets. The cord usually goes on to a length of a hundred feet, with 12 gauges preinstalled.

As a whole, the chainsaw never fails with its job as an excellent cutter. It saws through most tree barks and trunks with ease, with a matching lightweight touch to boot.

    This small saw cuts very well. I’m using it to re-cut a lot of the pre-split or oddly shaped wood ordered for my small wood stove. Using with a 100ft, #16 ext cord. With an easy hand it will make it though anything I have.

    It leaks oil badly regardless of the position it’s stored in. I kept it in a cardboard box on top of a few rags because of the warnings of previous reviewers. They were correct.

    There is a lot of initial chain stretch but it seems to have stabilized after three cutting sessions. After looking at the options at Home depot, I think they have a chain that will fit this saw but I haven’t purchased it yet.

    I recently purchased this electric chain saw for use cutting up small branches around my house. But my first opportunity to use the saw came when a large (7″ diameter – 25′ long) branch fell from a liquid amber tree in my front yard. Grabbing the chain saw and an extension cord, and proceeded to quickly reduce this large branch to a pile of short sections, ready for removal. The saw easily cut through the largest branch sections. This saw couldn’t have performed better. I most heartily recommend it to anyone who needs to cut branches and small trees.

    I have had mine for about 6 or 7 years. I have cut more then the 14″ max by cutting from both directions. Several times it would start smoking but would keep running. I got a lot of use out of this little saw and have gone thru 4 or 5 chains. Yesterday the saw finally gave up and burst into flams but I still have to give it 5 stars for taking abused that it wasn’t disigned to take.

    Excellent value for limbing and trimming

    A recent severe ice storm left most of Louisville without power for days. Trees were down everywhere, including my front and back yard. Fortunately for me, my power was out only a few hours, but the large tree limbs littering the yard sent me in search of a chainsaw. Since I have a 100 foot, 12 gauge extension cord, I went looking for an electric. Most stores had nothing on the shelf, but I finally found a Lowes that had some of these Remington 14 inch saws left in stock. At $44 I figured I would grab one quick.

    First, the box label defines the purpose of this saw: It is a “limb and trim” saw, and designed with that purpose in mind. Mine was fully assembled in the box. Basically, it was add oil, plug it in, put on leather gloves and safety glasses and get started. I have cut up most of a pine tree in the last two weeks, and this saw has performed perfectly. Most of the limbs I have cut up are between 2 and 6 inches wide, with a few that were 8 inches or so. No problem. Prop the limb on something to get it off the ground, push the trigger and 15 seconds later, the cut is made. This saw is very light, and can be used one handed if you are cautious. It is easy to control with one hand for limbing work. The manual oiler works. Push the bulb button and it will oil up the blade adequately. It will leak though, so put paper down on where you lay the saw, or drain the oil after use.

    I would give this saw five stars, but I haven’t had it long enough to judge its durability. For only $44, though, it has already paid for itself a couple of times over. I think it is a great addition to the garage, where, if need should arise, I can cut up some limbs that fall into the yard. Great value, so far great performance, yeah, just go buy one. It’s a no brainer for the occasional user.

    Edit to add 2/21/09: Lowes has an OEM replacement chain for this saw made by “Oregon” for $14, so it should be easy enough to replace if need be.

    A great saw for the price, but…

    The 14″ Remington chain saw is an excellent solution to casual wood cutting jobs for those who don’t wish to spend time messing with a noisy motor. Used within reason, that is to say not on logs that are clearly too big to handle, it is a great little saw. However, just try to easily find a replacement chain for this item. Some outlets carry chains which don’t fit the bar, or they want to charge you 40 bucks in UPS charges to send a stupid half pound chain. I’ve yet to find a happy medium, a chain supplier that has the goods and ships by the US Postal Service. Without replacement chains, this is a DISPOSABLE CHAIN SAW. Be forewarned

    The saw will do what it’s meant to do but remember, it’s not a 16″ gas powered Stihl. Don’t push down hard: let the saw do the work. Keep the oil reserve full. I just cross cut a 9″ cherry log so it does cut. I sharpen the chain after every other use. It’s especially important to do that with these light-powered saws since there is no horsepower available to push a dull blade thru wood. If your expectations are realistic it will do the job.

    i bought this saw in 2000/2001 on sale at home depot for $30-$40. I only intended to have it for 1 project (I assumed I would destroy it) which included removing 12-15 medium size trees in order to put a privacy fence in our yard. not only did it do a fine job of cutting the trees…i also cut thru random pieces of chain link fence (by mistake), ran the chain into the dirt/rock to cut stumps below the ground level and generally misused / abused this saw….again…i intended it to be somewhat disposable after my project was finished. it’s now 8/9 years later and while i have replaced the chain 3 or 4 times…it still works like a champ. i am marveled by how well this thing has held up over the years. highly recommended.
