Black and Decker Alligator Lopper
Black and Decker Alligator Lopper is a standard lopper with two handles and two jaws. Like a typical lopper, it is used to cut and trim branches. But the similarity is limited to those things mentioned. This alligator lopper is a highly specialized tool. It is actually a chainsaw.
It is chorded and not as maneuverable as other gas chainsaws, handsaws, typical loppers or axes. It has safety features which attract many customers. When used on the right work, this alligator lopper is really the best. But make sure that you have other tools and equipments to do the rest of the job done.
A Black and Decker Alligator Lopper is a small chainsaw used for light cutting. But it is absolutely cheaper than a chainsaw. This can be used as a specialized tool for repetitive and stationary tasks. This alligator lopper can be dispensed with saw horse and cut branches right on the ground. It has a double switching system and in addition, a protective jaw. This makes the product totally safer.
This alligator lopper can easily bite through branches and tree trunks. It bits through about four inches in diameter. It has a scissor-like handles which makes it better to control and maneuver. This can be likened to a mini-electric chainsaw.
Based on its name, the cutting mouth of the Black and Decker Alligator Lopper is like an Alligator’s mouth. It has 6-inches of chainsaw bar on the top of its mouth, resembling the teeth of an alligator.
It has a fixed bottom jaw which holds the branch or tree trunk in place, while both the bar and chains cut it smoothly. Two hands must be used together on the scissor-like handles in order to make a cut. The operator will need a 4.5-amp electric motor in order for the alligator lopper to function.
The Black and Decker Alligator Lopper is handy tool that can be added to a wonderful household tool collection. It has a unique and fine design. Although it may look complicated, it is very easy to use and manipulate. It can even be fun to use. The weight of this alligator lopper is just about 6.5 pounds. It has a firm grip on wood when the operator squeezes the handles and begins to cut. It can cut small branches quickly and cleanly.
Since the operator holds the handles with both hands, then they are safe away from the blades of the tool while it is running. In addition, this alligator lopper is a quite machine and is not disturbing to one’s ears.
Moreover, it easier for an alligator lopper to be positioned in the manner compared to that of a traditional chainsaw. However, you may need to put oil on the chain every few minutes to ensure quality work. The Black and Decker Alligator Lopper is indeed useful and innovative. It is perfect for home use and for cutting small branches.
This can be bought through various shops online for easier access. But this is also available at hardware near you.

OILING EVERY 10 MINUTES IS RIDICULOUS!!!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought this chain saw, after reading all the reviews & looking at it in action.
I am 70 years old, so I was SOLD!
It is all TRUE,but if I had known that, I HAVE TO STOP & OIL IT EVERY 10 MINUTES,
I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT IT.!!! Alicia
Love our new Alligator

I purchased the cordless Alligator (along with an extra battery and charger) for my husband for Father’s Day after searching for a safe alternative to a chain saw. This is wonderful. It has become my tool since it is so easy and lightweight. We have many small branches/trees/bushes in an overgrown part of our yard. What would have been a daunting task is turning our to be rather fun. I highly recommend this product.
Awesome

I originally bought this for my wife. After a few uses, I commandeered as it as my own. “We” have owned it for over two & 1/2 years with no trouble. In fact, I just replaced the chain for the first time, a few days ago. It’s safe enough, my children have used it (with my supervision, of course). I have cut everything from limbs to whole trees down with a 10″ dia. It makes short work of everything. No bar oil, no gas/oil mix, no resharpening chains, no fuss, no muss, just an extension cord to wind back up.
The only bad thing I can say about it, is that I could not get a chain locally, but it was delivered within a week. Implied task – Order the saw & 1 extra chain.
I have recommended this to everyone I know.
I bought the aligator saw when first released – 5 star rating

I found this Aligator chain saw to be easy to use, dependable and cuts well up to about 4″ in branch thickness. Sometimes rotating the cutting motion easily clears thru thick branches and DOES work. [...].
Love it!

I used a friend’s Alligator saw over the weekend for a trimming project and was amazed by it. I’d never seen anything like this before. I had always struggled with limbs too large for my large lopers and too small for my big chainsaw and this tool fills the gap perfectly. This worked very well for limbs in the 1.5″ to 3″ diameter.
The trouble with using a regular chainsaw on smaller limbs (not logs) like these is that the wood either bends or moves away when you get a regular chainsaw on it. This means that you have to hold the limb with one hand and hold a heavy chainsaw with the other. With this tool’s scissors action, the Alligator holds the wood for you.
Also, when cutting up downed limbs, I found that the chain action makes it easy to cut a limb that’s lying flat on the ground. Just get it part way into the jaw and the chain and jaw pull the limb up and into the jaw to the perfect place for cutting. After using it for about an hour, I was actually looking for more stuff to cut up!
I’ve read the negative reviews and wonder if they might have had a defective unit or one that wasn’t assembled properly or something. Hard to explain why I had such a smooth time with cutting up a bunch of stuff and a few other’s experience worked out badly. Perhaps my one hour experience isn’t long enough to be thourough?
It’s not often I’m impressed with a tool, but this is an exception. I’m shopping for one now and I’ll have my own within a week.
My first and last chainsaw, absolutely idiot-proof
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m a first-time homeowner with a huge, heavily wooded yard, and as much as I needed a chainsaw to get through the trunks and branches that need constant pruning, I’m naturally clumsy and intimidated by the raw, unharnessed power of most chainsaws.
When I learned about the Black & Decker Alligator Lopping Chainsaw, I felt comfortable enough to at least add one to my Wish List. Surprisingly, my Mom bought it for my birthday, but it sat in the garage for a long time before I finally got around to trying it out. I now wish I had put it to use sooner!
The biggest selling point of the lopper is safety: you get chainsaw power and utility in a more error-proof form factor, with the chain guarded on both sides by the jaw. You lose some flexibility in terms of the width of cuts allowed, but most things you’d cut with a traditional small electric chainsaw aren’t much wider than the maximum this lopper’s jaws can accommodate. And as other reviewers have noted, there are things you can do with this chainsaw that would be tricky or impossible on a traditional model, like cutting a stump flush against the ground.
This weekend, I spent 6 straight hours trimming 5 years’ worth of growth on a thick mountain laurel hedge. It performed remarkably, barely struggling on trunks 6 inches in diameter and cutting through the smaller branches like a hot knife through butter. Only once, due to user error, did the chain come loose but resetting it in the cam was a snap. But otherwise no stalls or kickback, and its lightweight design made it a breeze to lift over my shoulders and carry up the ladder.
I’m already looking forward to my next pruning/trimming project!
Gotta have this tool if your cutting trees
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is the gotta have tool of the year it is a must if your trimming or cutting down trees. This tool has plenty of power at least the A/C model does, I do not know how well the battery model works but I’m sure you will need two batteries. I can not say enough about this tool it has made time consuming trimming a snap and it also comes with a two year warranty.
Perfect for an urban gardener
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I needed to cut down some Yew’s (bushes/small trees), and didn’t want an actual chainsaw. Well, this is a chainsaw, but with the guards, I didn’t worry about losing a finger.
And being electric, maintenance is really easy, pretty much just oil it periodically, and loosen the bolts periodically for the auto-tension chain feature to do its thing.
Kudo’s to B&D for these, well work the $100 bucks.
Quick work

This product does what it is suppose to. Quick trimming of branches, thick and thin.
So handy
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This tool is exactly what I needed. I love the design because it’s safer and easier for me to use. It’s tough enough to do the job, yet easy to handle. I don’t worry about my granddaughter around this tool because once it’s unplugged, it’s unusable. Perfect for my needs. Gail N-Sacramento, CA
The best tool ever!!!

I was always afraid of chain saws, until I met the alligator lopper. Oh, how my life has changed. It is easy to use and as a woman working in the yard, I truly appreciate its versatility.
Nice Product
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This product is much better than a manual lopper. It cut thru tree branches very well. The only thing is it is heavy, that is the only reason it didn’t get 5 stars.
Under power/jams when cutting small branches
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Used initially to cut down holly like brush, then used it to cut downed scrubs to 12″ length sections to fit in disposal 55 gallons bin. Chain jammed when small twig like branches collected at the sprocket. 4.5 amps is too under powered to effectively cut the larger trunks without first allowing it to gain maximum rpm.
Truly Amazing!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Although I’m not a big fan of Black & Decker Power Tools,
this tool is amazing. The Alligator Lopper is the greatest
new tool idea to come along in a long time. It’s actually a
mini-chainsaw, but much safer to use than the full size models.
I bought this unit as I have arthritis in my arms, and the use
of Loppers is a painful experience for me. Thanks to this tool,
my regular loppers get very little use now. And when it comes to
cutting up limbs that are too big for regular loppers to handle,
this tool cuts through them like butter. It’s so much faster and
easier than using a hand saw, you will finish your work in just
a fraction of the time it used to take; and you won’t feel
exhausted afterwords either.
There are a few cons:
* If you have arthritis, this tool won’t eliminate all your pains
as it is a little heavy (weighing about 6.5 pounds). And holding
it at shoulder height for a period of time could get tiring too.
* Like a chain saw, the chain needs to be kept oiled (after every
ten minutes of cutting). Black & Decker makes that relatively easy
to do, but it’s still a pain.
* 4 inch diameter limbs are the maximum cutting capacity (which is
far larger than that of any regulars loppers you’re going to use);
still, there are times when it’s not quite enough. But I suppose
if the capacity was larger, the tool would be heavier and a little
more difficult to use on the smaller limbs. So on second thought,
this is probably not a negative after all.
Final comments:
I realize that every design is a compromise between many factors,
such as power, capacity, weight, durability, efficiency, performance,
safety, and ease of handling. So there are bound to be some cons.
No one tool can do everything and be the perfect tool for every job
that needs done. For that reason, I don’t consider the cons I’ve listed
to be serious enough to affect the five star rating I gave this tool.
Best Yard Tool Ever
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The “Gator” is by far the best yard tool I have ever owned. I also own a gas powered chain saw but I reach for my electric “Gator” every time I can. I must have made a thousand cuts with the same chain and it is still kicking out large chips (which means that the chain is still sharp). I very highly recommend it to everyone.
“Great piece of equipment”
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a mini chainsaw that makes cutting larger limbs a breeze. If you’ve ever had a hard time cutting with regular loppers this is the product you need. Saves time and effort, holds the limb in place and makes cutting very easy.
Excellent Light Duty Saw
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My property is plagued with saplings every few years. This saw makes quick work of these nusience trees. Better than my gas chain saw, better than my electric chain saw. The jaws combined with the lever action of the tool keeps the cutting chain against the wood for fast clean cuts.
Reduces effort, saves time, and is very safe to use.
Bought this for my husband, but. . .
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. I thought it looked like a great little tool for the lawn. After mowing yesterday and fighting low hanging limbs, I decided to try it out myself. The Alligator Lopper was still in the box (unopened) in the basement. I opened it up, read the manual (looked easy enough!) and then ran an extention cord to the offending tree. This was so easy even a girl could do it!! I cut the pesky limbs in about five minutes. I put it back in the basement on the shelf (not in the box). When do you think he will notice? Maybe I actually bought for myself?

This is really a good item, my husband has used it many times..
good purchase
Not for restricted access

The jaws make the saw safer and they hold your work for a cleaner cut. The jaws however get in the way when trying to cut at the base of a branch, when pruning correctly. I found it easier to break down branches for disposal with a standard chainsaw. I could access tight spaces easier and not have to constantly maneuver the jaw.
